Meet Jacky!

Jacqueline Sandoval is a second-year student in her Masters of Public health program at Yale University and is a part-time research assistant at Yale New Haven Hospital - Emergency Medicine Department.

During her time in Grogan, Jacky knew to take advantage of courses that would help her grow professionally, such as an ethics and philosophy course and an independent research study course with Professor Sopper, and a capstone course with Dr. Sarah Colonna. In addition, she proudly served as a Grogan Community Ambassador which strengthen her leadership and mentorship skills when serving her Grogan community.

“I knew these skills and knowledge were going to be important for me to excel in my public health profession. Additionally, obtaining these skills helped me build the confidence to apply to the Ronald E. McNair Scholars program, which, fortunately, I was accepted”

In order to conduct her own research project she obtained the guidance of a mentor from, Dr. Sandra Echeverría, a professor in the Public Health Education program. During the program and her mentorship experience with Dr. Echerverría, Jacky was able to receive high-quality graduate school preparation and research experience that was crucial to her goal of pursuing a Master's degree in Public Health.

Jacky tells us her future plans and goals.

“As I am finishing up my program, I am looking forward to finding job opportunities where I can work closely with communities with needs that have been unmet and unaddressed, and amplifying their voices and experiences through research. The hope is that I can raise awareness or call more attention to other investigators to also address the needs of marginalized communities, as this can influence policy and intervention development”

Good Luck Jacky!
