As we conclude our AAPI Heritage Month series, we are honored to feature Lana Fuqua lana_fuqua, whose reflection speaks powerfully to the importance of representation, belonging, and the responsibility of creating spaces where every young artist feels seen, celebrated, and supported.⁠

Through her work with the youngest dancers at Joffrey Ballet School, Lana continues to foster an environment rooted in joy, compassion, visibility, and connection, reminding us that dance is not only an art form, but a community where identities, cultures, and lived experiences can be embraced and uplifted.⁠

“Too often, young people struggle to dream because they do not see others like them having a seat at the table. One of my greatest goals is to ensure that representation is there - in the studios, on the stage, and in leadership - in meaningful and visible ways, so students of all backgrounds feel empowered to dream, lead, and create.”⁠

As we close this month of reflection and storytelling, we remain deeply grateful to the students, faculty, staff, and leaders who shared their voices and experiences with our community.
