Congrats, Bode!

Bode has been putting in serious work on the starboard side for the last four years. He’s built up an impressive collection of hardware during his career, highlighted by a Head of the Occoquan Gold and a WMIRA Silver in the 3V during his junior year, plus a WMIRA Gold and Mid-Atlantics Bronze in the 2F back when he was a freshman. As the official 3V captain, the guys know Bode as our absolute “berg demon.” He is always the first one eager to lead his boat mates and keeps everyone completely locked in when it’s time to grind. He even put together an entire rowing video breaking down the intense dynamics of the sport.

Outside of his leadership on the water, Bode is an absolute legend off of it... specifically as the AU Park carpool king, a title he held proudly until his van was tragically totaled by a grandma (don’t worry, everyone was fine). 

Whether he was blasting “One” by Metallica to get hyped, fueling up on those legendary Amish pretzels from St. Andrews, or grinding through his favorite Saturday practices, Bode always gave it his all. He’s a guy who truly lived by the coach’s classic words: “During practice we’re making deposits into the bank, on race day we’re making withdrawals.”

Bode is heading off to the University of California, San Diego this fall to study Mechanical Engineering and plans to keep rowing recreationally. He leaves the freshman class with a simple, realist piece of advice: 90% of crew is just showing up.
