I feel like a gynaecological cul-de-sac. 😑

Imagine going through the absolute ball ache of having your uterus, tubes and cervix taken out, only to be told less than a year later that you need more surgery.

Again.

My ovaries need to come out, the endometriosis needs clearing again, & I’ve now got 3 prolapses to sort too. All of that is too much for one operation, so we need to split it into 2.

Honestly, at this point I’m so fed up of it.

I knew a hysterectomy was a cure for adenomyosis, not endo, but I still didn’t expect to be back here so soon. Back in pain. Back having scans. Back talking about operations. Back preparing myself for recovery, surgical socks.

The most frustrating part is I had only just started to feel a bit like myself again.

After the hysterectomy, I really struggled with how I looked and felt. My body felt completely different, my confidence disappeared, and I honestly didn’t know who I was in it. You go through something that massive & everyone expects you to just be grateful it’s done, but there’s a whole weird aftermath that nobody really talks about.

I struggled with weight gain, sudden full blown menopause & not feeling like a proper woman anymore.

Recently, I finally felt confident enough to go back to the gym. I stopped panicking that I was going to tear my cuff again. I’ve been going 3 or 4 times a week, eating well, taking supplements, looking after myself.

The tiny bit of control you feel like you’ve clawed back. Gone again!

It’s not just the surgery. It’s the recovery. The swelling. The gas. The pain. The fear of doing too much. The weeks of feeling useless. The starting again.

I’ve had appointments, scans, treatments and operations since I was about 11 or 12.

25 years of being poked, prodded, scanned, cut open, stitched up.

And now, no uterus later, here we are.

Some people get huge relief from a hysterectomy. I did in a lot of ways. I’m no longer bleeding through clothes & the pain is nowhere near what it was before.

But that doesn’t mean it’s all gone. It doesn’t mean pain can’t come back.
