Forget blindly applying to 200 roles. Instead, reach out to 10 alumni or professionals for a 15-minute chat.
Ask genuine questions about their role, team culture, or recent market events.
A good conversation will open doors faster than a mass CV blast — that’s how real referrals happen.
Example: One student I coached got 3 interviews from just 4 alumni chats.

	2.	Post a killer LinkedIn project
Want to stand out in 2025? Drop value publicly.
Write a thread on an earnings call, share your thoughts on a macro trend, or build a simple options backtest in Python.
If it’s sharp, clear, and actionable — recruiters will notice. Some might even DM you first.
Real talk: I’ve seen posts on LVMH’s Q1 earnings or BTC volatility land interviews at AMs and S&T desks.

	3.	Apply where no one else looks
Everyone shoots for GS or Rothschild — but most roles are filled quietly elsewhere.
Try mid-sized asset managers, boutique IBs, local family offices, or niche brokers.
They give real exposure and fast learning — and many alumni used them as launchpads to FO roles later.
Think firms like Sycomore AM, Tikehau, Alantra, TP ICAP, or LFDE.

	4.	Take a specialized course — and network through it
Certifications like AMF, CFA L1, or Derivatives bootcamps are useful…
…but the real value? The instructors and guest speakers. Many are ex-traders, VPs, or recruiters.
Reach out with thoughtful follow-ups and you’ll stand out. Most students never do.

	5.	Use your first role as leverage
If you can’t get front office yet, get into the building: Ops, Risk, or FP&A can work.
Once inside, ask to shadow desks, volunteer for projects, or just listen and learn.
I’ve seen interns at BNP’s Risk team switch to Trading in 6 months — it happens.
