## Caption

At 5th overall in the 2014 draft, the New York Islanders selected winger Michael Dal Colle after putting up 95 points in 67 OHL games with the Oshawa Generals in his draft year. His selection didn’t come as a surprise, given that he was ranked 5th in North American skaters by the NHL Central Scouting Bureau. In 246 OHL games, Dal Colle put up 316 points and played well during his first professional season after finishing his junior career in 2016. As a rookie with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for the 2016-17 season, the AHL affiliate for the Islanders, he had 41 points in 75 games. Despite decent rookie numbers, Dal Colle was cut from the Islanders training camp the following season but would be called up later that same season and made his NHL debut in 2018. His time in the NHL didn’t last long that season though, only playing 4 games with 0 points and went on to get only 24 points in 60 games for the Sound Tigers. The next season, he would once again be assigned to the minors coming out of training camp and went on to have 34 points in 34 games; as a result he was called up and played 28 games for the Islanders. 

The 2019-2020 would be the longest NHL season Dal Colle had, playing in 53 games with the islanders but only putting up 10 points. After playing 26 games with 4 points this past season, the Islanders decided to not give Dal Colle a qualifying offer so as of this posting he is still an unrestricted free agent. With 21 points in 111 NHL games, Is Dal Colle just another example of a highly skilled junior player that couldn’t transition to the major level?
