Highway 40 is scheduled to fully open back up on June 15th. It's a very nice area to visit if you haven't been. This video is from October, while Larch hunting 🎉

This stretch of road is actually closed right now to all traffic, including pedestrians and cyclists due to increased grizzly bear activity. Closed until further notice, which could even be after June 15th. 

They close it off to vehicle traffic each year for a few reasons. 

"The Highwood Pass section of Highway 40 is closed to all motor vehicles every year from December 1 to June 15. This is due to heavy winter snow and the preservation of the area's natural ecology. Once the snow melts in the spring but before the road opens to cars, this stretch often temporarily serves as a popular route for cyclists." (CBC).
