Syvar, fresh from their dance performance before the distinctly unimpressed Cals, decided to spend some time exploring the temple’s famed art collection while the crew of the Soma waited to learn whether their efforts had secured a Prime Pass.

For a while, everything was disappointingly ordinary.

Then an ancient storage crystal appeared behind them.

Not arrived. Not delivered. Appeared.

Syvar’s first assumption was that somebody from the Soma was responsible. The synth immediately began compiling a list of likely suspects and, more importantly, ways the joke could have been improved.

Still, something about the crystal felt unusual.

Curious, Syvar attempted a routine interface scan. Nothing happened.

They tried again.

Nothing.

Which was odd.

Ancient storage crystals were hardly exotic technology. Given enough time, Syvar could usually persuade, coax, interrogate or outright charm information out of almost any archive ever constructed by a civilisation with opposable thumbs.

This crystal offered nothing.

No handshake.

No access request.

No language layer.

Not even a polite refusal.

It was as though the crystal had looked at Syvar and decided they didn’t exist.

Now they were interested.

Leaning closer, the synth reached out to examine its surface.

And then it was chaos. 

One instant they were standing in a quiet temple gallery. The next they were falling through a cascade of events scattered across time itself. Vast battles flashed past in moments. Impossible cities glittered within crystal worlds. Unknown figures reached towards them from places they had never seen. Panic was not an emotion Syvar encountered often, but they were beginning to suspect this situation deserved an exception.

Was this the past?

The present?

The future?
