Nebraska men's basketball coach Fred Hoiberg says he is optimistic about the Huskers' roster as the program prepares to begin summer workouts later this month.

Players are scheduled to arrive in Lincoln over the coming days before medical evaluations begin June 8. Nebraska's first official summer workout is set for June 11.

"I really am excited about what we've got," Hoiberg said. "You fully don't know until you get on the floor with your team."

The Huskers enter the offseason after a historic 2025 campaign that included the program's first NCAA Tournament victory under Hoiberg and a run to the Sweet 16. Nebraska must now replace several key contributors and veteran leaders from that team.

Hoiberg believes the coaching staff addressed several needs through the transfer portal.

Among the newcomers, point guard Trevon Linehart stands out as a player expected to take on a major role. Hoiberg praised Linehart's experience and winning background after helping Utah Valley capture back-to-back regular-season conference championships.

"Exact type of player we were looking for with the roster that we have coming back," Hoiberg said. "Been a part of a winning program and was very well coached."

Hoiberg also highlighted transfers Damon Wilkinson, Taj DeGourville, Caden Betts, Bowden Kapke and Sam Orm as players capable of making an immediate impact.

In addition to the transfer additions, Nebraska is bringing in a pair of highly regarded freshmen in Connor Rice and Jacob Lanier. Hoiberg expects both newcomers to compete for playing time as they adjust to the college game.

The roster will be built around a returning core that includes Braden Frager, Pryce Sandfort, Connor Essegian and Leo Curtis, all of whom are expected to take on larger leadership responsibilities this season.

Throughout June, Nebraska's focus will be on strength training, skill development and team building before transitioning into more competitive practices later in the summer.

While Hoiberg likes the pieces Nebraska has assembled, he emphasized that the evaluation process is only beginning.

The Huskers will spend the coming weeks determining how quickly a roster filled with newcomers and returning talent can come together before the start of the 2025-26 season.
