Outstanding Student Volunteer Award 🌹

This award celebrates a student who has made a significant contribution to the game through their volunteering. Student volunteers are the beating heart of the university game as committee members, volunteer coaches, event organisers and student leaders. All of the nominations we received for this award highlight the incredible effort that student volunteers put in every day, and we are truly grateful for their contribution. 

Congratulations to our winner, Ellie Ediss lbororugbywomens 🏆

Our winner has taken on many roles this past season, from Head Coach of the Development Team to BUCS 2 Captain as well as match day physio.  Alongside her studies, she has been instrumental in significantly increasing participation numbers and in organising a wide range of meaningful and competitive fixtures that have provided clear development pathways for players. 

A key part of her impact has been her commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment. She has ensured that players feel fully valued and part of the wider university squad, despite not competing in BUCS fixtures on Wednesdays, fostering a strong sense of belonging and shared identity across the programme. Including them in social activity and building a great community of players across all teams at the club. She has also led on culture session for the BUCS 2 team she has captained, ensuring everyone feels they have a voice in the team and facilitating difficult and honest conversations. 

In the words of her peers and head coach: ‘For her to have had the impact on so many women starting their rugby journey at Loughborough whilst also being a peer is amazing and to see the relationship and respect, she has cultivated with the group makes me proud. She has become an integral player, person and friend within the University club and truly is a role model to so many around her and embodies the England Rugby Values. I cannot think of someone more deserving of this recognition and can only wish every club could have a volunteer like her.’
