The Government’s own system can send you a notice if you file your ITR too early.

Because income tax scrutiny today is mostly automated.

Your ITR is automatically compared with:
• AIS
• Form 26AS
• SFT data from banks & financial institutions
And if anything doesn’t match — the system flags it automatically.

Here’s the issue right now:
Employers have until May 31 to file TDS returns and until June 15 to issue Form 16.

Banks also file SFT data around this time:
• FD interest
• Mutual fund transactions
• Capital gains
• Dividend income
• Large deposits

But this data takes time to reflect in your AIS.

Which means if you file too early, you may end up filing using incomplete information.

Then once AIS updates later, the system sees a mismatch between your filed return and the updated records.

That can lead to:
• Refund delays
• Tax notices
• Additional tax demand
• Revised return filing

All avoidable by simply waiting a few extra days.

The one exception:

If you urgently need your ITR for a loan approval and have a simple salary income structure, filing early may still make sense.

But for most people with FDs, mutual funds, capital gains, or multiple income sources — waiting until after June 15 is usually safer.
