How are you able to travel so much in today’s economy?” is a question we get asked a lot.

And the honest answer is - we found a way to save close to $10,000 per year, which we directly put toward our travels.

For us, travel and experiences have always been the priority. We aim for at least 2 international trips a year, along with multiple road trips and getaways across Canada in every season. We also love snowboarding and outdoor activities, which naturally adds to our lifestyle spending.

When we looked at the numbers, the cost difference between living in Toronto vs Ottawa for our lifestyle came out to be over $10,000 per year - including housing, commuting, and overall cost of living.

Now, important context - Ajay and I both work 100% remote, which means our location isn’t tied to an office. Whether we live in Ottawa or Toronto, our work setup stays exactly the same.

So we asked ourselves: does it make sense to spend that extra amount every year just to live in a bigger city, when we’re already working remotely?

For us, the answer was no.

Toronto is an incredible city with amazing energy, opportunities, and global connectivity - and we completely understand why so many people choose to live there. But for our current priorities, choosing Ottawa allows us to save more, invest consistently, and use that freedom to fund the . travel experiences we truly value.

At the end of the day, it’s about designing a lifestyle around what matters most to you.
