For newcomers to Ottawa and visitors ready to skate on the largest skating rink in the world, here’s a quick guide to the Rideau Canal
and its entrances. ❄️⛸️

Key things to know:

📌The Canal passes through several neighborhoods and is flanked by two main drives: Colonel By Drive and Queen Elizabeth Drive.

📌 Queen Elizabeth Drive runs along Downtown, Centretown, and The Glebe.

📌 Colonel By Drive runs along Downtown, Old Ottawa East, and Old Ottawa South.

🍕Rest areas with food vendors, heated changing rooms and washrooms:

1. Rideau – The first entrance on Colonel By Drive downtown, facing the Rogers Centre. Skate rentals available here.

2. Concord – On Colonel By Drive at Concord St, in Old Ottawa East. Features a BeaverTail stand and a bar for alcoholic drinks.

3. Fifth – The largest rest area, on Queen Elizabeth Drive at Fifth Avenue in The Glebe. Many food vendors, washrooms, and skate rentals.

4. Bronson – On Dow’s Lake facing Bronson Avenue. Food vendors, alcoholic drinks, and washrooms available.

🚗 Parking tips:

Downtown: Best option is City Hall underground parking, then walk to the Mackenzie King entrance on Queen Elizabeth Drive.

Fifth Rest Area: Street parking nearby is your only option.

Bronson (Dow’s Lake): Street parking is also your best bet.
