This is what Resorts World could have been 👀🌍

Resorts World turned out much different than originally conceptualized. If some of these early concepts had been built, Resorts World may have been the most stunning property in Las Vegas with the most “wow” factor. 

Steve Wynn even hinted at it.

Some of architect Paul Steelman’s early concepts included a replica of the Great Wall of China, a live panda habitat, traditional pagodas, and a 7-acre indoor water park.

When ground broke in 2015, Resorts World was sold as “The Forbidden City,” an immersive experience of Chinese culture meant to target Asian high-rollers. That never happened.

In 2016–2017, due to geopolitical shifts, Genting decided to soften the theming to avoid over-segregating the resort’s demographic appeal.

In 2018, Steelman proposed another bold concept called “The Halo,” which would serve as “The Asian Mirage Atrium” but with a much bolder vision. Steve Wynn even admitted to Steelman it was the only attraction he saw as real competition to the Wynn properties.

The concept included a VR Theme Park, a “Fantasy” waterpark, and bioluminescent nightlife & lounges that could be seen from the Strip.

The plans were scrapped by Genting at the last minute because they felt the atrium was an inefficient use of real estate and didn’t maximize the revenue per square foot.

 Instead, they built Zouk Nightclub and 1,000 more rooms.
