The Bol Bol era in Orlando is officially over. What went wrong? 😵‍💫⤵️

𝙃𝙄𝙂𝙃 𝙃𝙊𝙋𝙀𝙎 ➤ I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t believe #BolBol was, at one point, a future franchise cornerstone. From October-December, Bol exceeded expectations. His scoring abilities were raw, yet exciting. His coast-to-coast transition drives became his trademark move. It wasn’t until after the New Year that Bol slowly began to slip out of the starting rotation. 

𝘼 𝘽𝙄𝙂 𝙒𝙃𝙊 𝘾𝘼𝙉’𝙏 𝙋𝙇𝘼𝙔 𝘽𝙄𝙂 ➤ Bol’s stature and size is what drew so much attention to his game throughout his career. At 7’2, 210 lbs. with a 7’8 wingspan, he fits perfectly into the modern “unicorn” mold. However, being so lanky and light could only benefit him so much on the offensive end. Defensively, he was bullied down low and struggled to find positioning against bigger (or heavier) opponents. And while many fans of Bol’s will direct their attention to his blocks numbers, they do not tell the story of his interior defense. In fact, he was statistically one of the worst rim protectors in the league in 2023. The Magic simply couldn’t rely on their tallest player to play like their tallest player should. 

𝙒𝙃𝙔 𝙒𝘼𝙄𝙑𝙀 𝙃𝙄𝙈 ? ➤ We probably won’t be aware of the EXACT reason why we chose to waive Bol instead of trading him. I assume that the team just didn’t have him apart of their long-term agenda. With the re-signing of #MoeWagner, the Magic planned to play him over Bol regardless. Maybe they questioned his work ethic, or his motor, or his overall love for the game. Who knows? At the end of the day, we move forward. 

I’m still a bit shocked by this move. I was dead set on Orlando giving him at least one more year to prove his worth. I’d love to see him picked up by a team with not many minutes to promise, like the #TrailBlazers, #Hornets or #Wizards.
