The hours after I gave birth to my first baby, Blake, at 32 weeks are a groggy blur.

But I vividly remember waking up at 11:30pm, 6 hours after my emergency c-section, having the strongest drive to get up and go see my daughter in the NICU despite not being able to move.

The idea of her being without her mother, on her first day of life, it didn’t sit right with me. I was determined to get there before midnight. And I did.

And while that moment was one of the hardest of my life, I think back to it a lot now as I’m pregnant with my second.

In that moment, as I held my baby properly for the first time, I was finally able to take in everything that had happened in the last 24 hours of surviving HELLP - a life threatening severe form of pre-eclampsia.

There is so much out of our control during pregnancy and postpartum. And that feeling can be scary, especially going into another high risk pregnancy, but I put the upmost faith in my ability to be the mother my kiddos need in those moments of fear.

That faith will get me through whatever hard times are in front of me because that same faith is what got me through it all the first time 🫶🏽
