Today, we are crowning singer-songwriter Hayley Kiyoko as our #QueenoftheWeek 👑

Born in Los Angeles, California, Kiyoko was interested in the arts from a young age. She started acting in TV commercials as a child and quickly turned to music, beginning drum lessons at age six and writing songs by the time she was eight years old. She was the creator and choreographer of her high school step team and started a garage band that performed locally while she was in high school. Her entertainment career grew when she joined the girl group The Stunners and starred in Disney Channel’s Lemonade Mouth in 2010.

When The Stunners split, Kiyoko shifted to creating her own music, releasing her debut EP in 2013. Two years later, she released her second EP, This Side of Paradise, which featured the hit single, “Girls Like Girls.” Kiyoko later expanded on the song, which was a trailblazer for queer representation in mainstream pop music, and turned it into a New York Times bestselling young adult queer romance novel. The story was also made into a film, marking Kiyoko’s feature film directorial debut and will be released in theaters later this month.

Kiyoko has released two studio albums, with her third set for release on June 12. She also became a two-time New York Times bestselling author following the release of her second LGBTQ+ young adult novel, Where There’s Room for Us. Throughout her career, Kiyoko has remained committed to advocating for the LGBTQ+ community and paving the way for increased acceptance and inclusivity. Through her music and novels, Kiyoko has created spaces for queer youth to see themselves represented and feel a sense of belonging and self-acceptance.

Thank you, Queen, for bringing your authentic self to your art and encouraging others to do the same. 💜 #SIXBroadway #SIXUSTour
