On a Monday afternoon in two weeks, the moon will appear to be the same size as the sun when it passes the Earth. The phenomena will prevent sunlight from reaching the atmosphere, casting a silhouette across the sky on a day that would otherwise be another ordinary Monday.

On the ground, birds will fall silent, some animals will be overwhelmed with a temporary fit of confusion and traffic will line the state’s already congested highways.

And at hundreds of schools across Texas on April 8, students will gaze at the open sky for a few minutes while peeking through paper eclipse viewers with a familiar lone star face on it — the Buc-ee’s beaver.

Funded by the most famous gas station chain in Texas, the Houston Museum of Natural Science launched an initiative to send solar eclipse educational tools like lesson plans, classroom activities, virtual programs and educator training materials to participating districts around Texas free of charge. Hundreds of boxes toting eclipse kits have already landed at schools across the state in preparation for the big event.
