New data paints a grim picture as the drought conditions continue to spread across the state. 

Almost 96% of the state is now affected by the drought. The only locations that are registering as normal with respect to rainfall are the counties in the upper most region of the panhandle. 

A third of the state is in extreme conditions while almost 12% is in exceptional drought - that designation is for areas with widespread crop and pasture loses, exceptional fire risk and water shortages. The drought map shows exceptional drought conditions growing in south central and southeast Texas.
