## Caption

Sometime after 2030, NASA plans to decommission the International Space Station, also known as the ISS. There have been some calls to extend its life or to somehow keep it in space as a sort of orbiting monument to engineering and international cooperation.

But, for various reasons, NASA has concluded the best approach is to de-orbit the station. In other words, the agency plans to crash it into the Pacific Ocean and is soliciting proposals from commercial companies to do just that.
