## Caption

Houston's air quality is set to take a hit this week due to a moderate amount of harmful particulate matter in the atmosphere caused by a thick plume of Saharan dust making its way into the region.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality predicts that elevated fine particulate matter will gradually push farther inland as the dust is transported northward by southerly surface winds. The phenomenon is common during summer and is expected to last two to five days.

Those who suffer from poor air quality should spend less time outside during the day, and those sensitive to poor air quality should be aware of the situation.
