Brian Tierney shares how Philadelphia’s first tourism campaign helped locals see the city through the eyes of outsiders, and why @fifa World Cup 2026 is another major opportunity to tell the region’s story to the world.

On the SeventySix Capital Sports Leadership Show, Brian Tierney reflects on launching Philadelphia’s first tourism campaign nearly 27 years ago.

After research showed that Philadelphians sometimes had a worse view of their own city than visitors did, the campaign featured non-Philadelphians like Oprah Winfrey and Ken Burns sharing what they loved about Philadelphia. The message was simple: sometimes it takes an outside perspective to remind people how special their city really is.

Tierney connects that same idea to Philadelphia’s role in FIFA 2026, highlighting the opportunity to welcome fans from around the world and showcase everything the region has to offer, from its history and culture to its location between New York and Washington, D.C.
