Two months postpartum with twins is a strange time.

The babies aren’t technically newborns anymore. But they don’t have schedules yet. They don’t sleep through anything. And your body is somewhere between acute postpartum and whatever comes next — not raw, but not recovered either.

People are starting to ask if you’re back to normal.

You don’t know how to answer that.

The village has gotten quieter. The meals stopped coming. The check-in texts are less frequent. Everyone assumes that two months in, you’ve figured it out.

You haven’t. You’re just more used to not having figured it out.

Here’s what two months with twins actually looks like. 

There are moments where both are crying at the same time and there are only two of you and you are each holding one and you just make eye contact over the sound of it and somehow that’s enough.

The three big kids have adjusted in ways that genuinely astonish you. Thea and Nathan ask to hold a baby every single morning. And afternoon. And evening. Zoe calls them both “my babies.”

Your body is doing something strange — the brain fog hasn’t lifted and you’re not yourself yet. You’re not sure when that happens or what it looks like when it does.

And then one of them smiles at you. On purpose. Like they know exactly who you are.

And the math changes completely.

Two months. Still in it. Still becoming. Still somehow more in love than yesterday.
