Chase David Burns was born on January 16, 2003, in Naples, Italy, where his parents were stationed with the United States military.

The right-handed pitcher grew up in Gallatin, Tennessee, and attended Beech Senior High School.

Instead, Burns opted to play college baseball for the Tennessee Volunteers, making an immediate impact on the mound.

As a freshman in 2022, he went 8-2 with a 2.91 ERA and earned Freshman Pitcher of the Year honors.

During his sophomore season in 2023, he transitioned into a highly effective relief role and helped propel the Volunteers to the Men’s College World Series.

Following that season, he transferred to Wake Forest University to play for the Demon Deacons.

His 2024 junior season at Wake Forest was historic, as he went 10-1 with a 2.70 ERA in sixteen starts.

He led all of college baseball and set a school record with 191 strikeouts in just 100 innings pitched.

This elite performance earned him the ACC Pitcher of the Year award and made him a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award.

Recognizing an incredible baseball name and an even better pitcher, the Cincinnati Reds selected Burns with the second overall pick in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft.

He signed with Cincinnati on July 18, 2024, securing a major signing bonus of $9.25 million dollars.

He climbed the minor leagues incredibly fast, starting at Single-A Dayton before moving to Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Louisville.

The Reds promoted him to the big leagues, making him the very first pitcher of his draft class to debut.

In his debut against the New York Yankees, he became the first starter since 1961 to strike out the first five batters he faced.
Burns finished his historic debut with eight strikeouts, quickly cementing himself as a crucial part of the Cincinnati rotation.

He earned his first major league win on March 30, 2026, by throwing five scoreless innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
