Seven weeks ago, after the tournament in China, I flew back to Germany for an MRI on my back. The good news: no disc herniation. The bad news: a lot of work ahead. I worked my ass off to get back out here and compete again. The pain is getting better every week and I can definitely feel the benefits of all the strength work I’ve been putting in.

A huge thank you to all the fans and spectators over the last three weeks in Belgium, Austria and now here in the Netherlands. The support has been incredible. ❤️ After being away for a while and fighting my way back, feeling that energy from the crowds meant a lot to me.

But it’s also typical Marcel… as soon as things start looking up, my expectations go through the roof and suddenly I’m thinking about winning again. 😅 Being -5 through 35 holes felt really solid. That double bogey hit me harder than it should have, and today’s start wasn’t exactly what I had in mind either.

I’ve been away from home for seven weeks now, away from my family and my girls. Not ideal, but necessary to give my back the attention it needed. One more good round tomorrow, then it’s back to my island, back to my girls, and time to reset the mind.

The last few weeks reminded me that nothing in this game should be taken for granted. Seven weeks ago I was just hoping to get healthy again and be able to compete. Maybe it’s time to approach the next tournaments with a little more humility, a little more patience and a lot more trust in the process.

Two weeks at home with my family, keep working on my body, keep building confidence, and then get ready for the next challenge.

One step at a time. 👊
