Pre-Med Spotlight: Victoria Baker ’27

Victoria Baker’s calendar is packed. Physics class. MCAT prep. Shadowing at a free ophthalmology clinic. Pole vault practice. Research. Medical school applications.

But for Victoria, a biology major on the pre-med track, the busiest parts of her schedule are also the most meaningful.

“I came to Trinity torn between research and medicine, but I knew what I wanted most was to have connections with people,” she says.

That mindset has shaped everything from her experience in the classroom to her work across San Antonio’s medical community.

Through a mobile eye screening unit run in partnership with UT Health San Antonio, Victoria has worked directly with patients and seen firsthand how individualized care can change someone’s experience.

“I just love seeing how you can take such an individualized approach to each person to make sure they have the best experience possible,” she says.

Outside of medicine, Victoria’s interests stretch across disciplines. A Mediterranean studies minor and self-described history buff, she’s fascinated by the ways ancient discoveries still influence modern medicine and ethics.

“There's so many ways we can trace medical knowledge back to ancient discoveries,” she says. “I just love the continuity of it all.”

In one of her favorite courses, biomedical ethics, Victoria found herself drawn to difficult conversations without easy answers.

“You see the way that people think and work through stuff,” she says. “Ethical issues that are super non-concrete… it could go any number of ways.”

Whether she’s competing for Trinity’s track and field team, conducting summer research with biology professor Jonathan King, or preparing for medical school, Victoria says the connections she’s built continue to shape her path.

“That’s why you come to a smaller school,” she says.
