Two CHS Companions service groups left Western New York on Monday morning, traveling to serve communities in need in Montana and Maine. 
 
In the CHS Companions Program, juniors respond to the Ignatian call to service via immersion trips.
 
Headed to Montana are (left to right): Ethan Manley, Tommy Long, Sean Whelahan, John Dunn, Max Miranda, Sam Devlin, Isaac Lowinger, Nick Elia, Max Spencer, Gabriele Pili.

Accompanying the students to Montana are Director of Campus Ministry Fr. Charles Frederico, S.J., and counselor Annette Sugg.

The Maine group is led by religious studies teacher Josh Gehl and Campus Ministry Associate Will Miller (second from left). 
 
Canisius students have also participated in immersion trips to Mexico, Puerto Rico, New Orleans, West Virginia and Virginia during recent school years. There are additional trips in the winter and spring.
 
In the Companions program, each student is invited to grow in self-knowledge through an experience of service to and solidarity with the marginalized. The CHS groups will participate in service projects with various community organizations. 
 
A personal encounter with communities and individuals bearing the weight of poverty, weakness and financial dependence challenges a young man to understand these conditions, while the companionship of this encounter affirms the goodness and potential implicit in his strengths.
