Mir Kasparian was not entirely sure why he had woken up in the med bay.

Then again, he had rather stopped being sure about many things aboard the Vela since first encountering the anomaly. 

Falling asleep in his quarters and waking up elsewhere on the ship had become, if not normal, then familiar enough to be filed under quietly horrifying developments people accepted because making a formal complaint about reality seemed inappropriate. His excuse, as always, was too much work 

This time, however, was different.

Dr 1335 Anzari and their assistant, Dr 7665 Finn, were standing over him. Both were Union robots. Both looked at him in that synthetic way which one could never quite place but it felt uneasy. 

Perhaps they knew he had discovered the anomaly. 

Perhaps they knew that, since listening to its sounds, Mir had been dreaming of the blue chamber.

Always the same chamber.

Vast. Dark. Almost empty, except for the blue glowing water that shifted softly. 

And somewhere beyond the glow, something spoke to him.

Always the same voice. A voice from the dark abyss.

It told him things.

That was the troubling part. Not the dreams. Not the chamber. Not even the voice.

But the information which felt useful. Deliberate. Consistent 

When Anzari wanted to perform further scans, something inside Mir jolted. He could not risk the dreams being compromised.

And then the most peculiar thing happened.

Finn spoke to him using robotic telepathy.

Which was frowned upon in the Union, mostly because conversations were expected to have the decency to pass through the air first.

But stranger still was the impression Finn gave him.

It knew something Anzari did not.

And it wanted to help him protect the things that had been keeping him awake.
