At MCSO, there are numerous distinguished leaders, but Major Anthony Durrah, who oversees the Mecklenburg County Detention Center, truly stands out for his contributions over the years. During the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, when he was Captain Durrah, he ensured that all officers felt well-supported. "Sometimes, it was hard for us to get a lunch break because of the staffing. But he would bring in what I started calling little "care packets" for us that he purchased with his own money and made sure we had something snack and eat with a drink throughout the night." This along with pushing positivity and encouraging officers and supervisors, Officer York says "Because of who he was, that gave us that strength we needed to keep going."

In these challenging times, particularly with the ongoing overcrowding issue, it is essential to recognize the importance of showing gratitude to our Detention Officers.
