One of the reasons friendships between men and women can become complicated is that people aren't always honest about what they want.

A man says he wants friendship.

But does he really?

Or is friendship simply the safest way to gain access, build trust, stay close, and wait for an opportunity to become something more?

Many women have experienced this.

They thought they had a genuine friend.

Then the moment they entered a relationship, rejected an advance, or set a boundary, the "friendship" suddenly disappeared.

The friendship wasn't lost.

It was never the real objective.

This is why attractive women often say they struggle to find genuine male friends. The more attractive someone is, the more likely other people's motives become mixed with attraction, desire, fantasy, or hope.

The challenge isn't whether men and women can be friends.

The challenge is whether both people are being completely honest about what they want.

Because friendship can survive honesty.

It rarely survives hidden agendas.
