Between 2019 and 2025, Brazil exported 146 tonnes of gold - worth a staggering US$6.4 billion.⁣
⁣
But a new Greenpeace Brazil investigation reveals a dark truth: up to 30% of that gold might be completely illegal.⁣
⁣
How? Illegal miners are exploiting a regulatory loophole to "launder" gold stolen directly from Indigenous Territories and protected areas in the Amazon rainforest, smuggling it into the global market.⁣

The human and environmental toll is devastating:⁣
🛑 Poisoned Waters: Mercury from mining is choking rivers and killing fish - destroying the primary food source for local communities.⁣
