🏆️ syracuseu finished first in the broadcast category and third overall at the Hearst Journalism Awards in another strong showing by newhousesu journalism students at the National Championships this week in San Francisco.

In individual contests, Evan Fay, a junior broadcast and digital journalism (BDJ) major, took second place in the audio category. Fay’s second-place finish included a $7,500 scholarship.

Boone Kilpatrick, also a junior BDJ major, was a finalist in the National Championships, earning a $1,500 scholarship. 

After winning first place in the Podcast category last month, BDJ student Phoebe Gulsen ’26 was invited by Hearst organizers to San Francisco to produce a podcast about the National Championships and was also awarded a $1,500 scholarship.
