Gilbert is cracking down after multiple e-bike incidents in recent weeks.

Town leaders approved new rules that take effect immediately after two serious teen e-bike crashes in Gilbert and several reckless riding incidents across the Valley.

The new ordinance bans the sale of Class 3 e-bikes to anyone under 18, requires helmets for children, and creates a 15 MPH speed limit for sidewalks, parks, and certain paths.

Reckless riding, riding under the influence, and fleeing from police can now be treated as a Class 1 misdemeanor.

Gilbert police say they also plan to use drones and targeted enforcement to catch riders breaking the rules.
