A question I get a lot is why we do double threshold days in HYROX training.

The simple answer? To get more quality work done without completely cooking yourself.

Threshold is that effort where you’re working hard, but you’re still in control. You’re right on that line where the work is challenging but sustainable.

By splitting the work into an AM and PM session, we can accumulate a lot more time at that intensity than if we tried to do it all in one hit. If we did, the quality would eventually drop and we’d just be grinding through fatigue.

For HYROX athletes, it’s even more relevant.

You’re constantly working hard, recovering, then having to go again. That’s why our morning sessions often involve running, while the afternoon session might be ski or row work to hit the same system without adding more impact to the legs.

It’s not just about getting fitter either. There is definitely a mental side to it.

Learning to stay calm, keep your breathing under control and trust your pace when your heart rate is high is a skill that pays off massively on race day.

Train with purpose. Race with intent.
