Ottawa elementary school cancels PLANNED Drag queen event DURING Pride Month‼️😳🇨🇦🏳️‍🌈

Mutchmor Public School in Ottawa’s Glebe neighbourhood has cancelled a planned drag queen storytime event that was scheduled to take place on June 19 during Pride Month.

Earlier this month, parents were informed that the school would be welcoming drag performer Adrianna Exposée for a storytime session focused on love, acceptance, and celebrating differences through age-appropriate books selected by teachers. 

The school noted at the time that the goal was to foster a love of reading while promoting inclusion in a unique and engaging way.

According to the school, this would have been the second time Adrianna Exposée participated in a similar event at Mutchmor.

In a follow-up email to families, school administrators announced the event would no longer move forward, stating it had raised “questions about curricular alignment.” No further details were provided.

Adrianna Exposée says she has taken part in similar events at Mutchmor and other Ottawa schools and believes parental pushback led to the cancellation.

Mutchmor is part of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB), which says all schools are encouraged to participate in Pride Month, although activities may vary from school to school. 

The board is also flying Pride flags at all OCDSB schools and buildings throughout the month. The OCDSB had not publicly commented on the cancellation at the time of publication.

The school says it remains committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students and will continue promoting themes of acceptance, diversity, and belonging throughout the school year.
