We are excited to hear Angie Appleby Purcell, Managing Director of the Notre Dame Institute for Advanced Study speak. A few fun facts about Angie:

She’s the youngest of 6 and was raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. Her oldest brother came to ND after seeing an ND football game on TV, which started the trend of several siblings going to ND. That brother is now the Dean of the Keough School!

As an undergrad, Angie was very involved in the Center for Social Concerns and NDE Retreats. Angie started in the Dept. of Theology in 2007. She developed the Common Good Initiative for graduate students--took classes to El Salvador, New Orleans, Portland, and sent students to Africa. She moved to Notre Dame Alumni in 2011, was the Director of Spirituality, started FaithND, led various faith-focused campaigns: advent series with video reflections, helped to lead Family Volunteer Camp, participated in the Shamrock game in Ireland, worked the National Championship, and the Women's Final Four.

She was accepted into the University's Leadership Rotation Program 2016-2017. She reported to Provost Tom Burish and had opportunities to meet with all the University leaders and some BOT members.

Angie then served as Senior Director for Internationalization at NDI 2017-2022. She traveled to Beijing, Hong Kong, Rome, Dublin, Kylemore, London, Mexico, Brazil, and Chile. She oversaw the Latin America global locations and our global gateway in Jerusalem- lived at Tantur in Jerusalem during the summer of 2018.

Angie served as unit leader for Care and Concern during 2021-2022 as part of the Covid Response Unit. Angie will talk about the history of women at ND, life on campus now, and what ND is doing globally/from a research perspective! She’ll also answer questions!
