Back on Friday, May 29th, the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) announced the addition of VTSU Castleton as a core member beginning in the 2027-2028 season.

The Spartans will place 20 of their 26 varsity sports within the MASCAC, providing a permanent and stable home. In terms of hockey, this will make the men’s side increase to 9 members & the women’s side will expand to 8 members with the addition of Fitchburg State as well.

The announcement signals that the University’s time in the Little East Conference (LEC) will come to a close after the 2026–2027 academic year, concluding nine years of competition marked by continued elevation of its athletics programs
