One of the wildest overtakes in motorsport history almost happened at over 170 mph (274 km/h) on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

During the 2018 Nürburgring 24 Hours, Dries Vanthoor was carving through traffic in the #8 Audi R8 LMS when he attempted an audacious multi-car pass that looked destined to become an all-time racing highlight.

Instead, the move ended in a dramatic crash, turning what could have been a legendary overtake into one of the most famous “what if” moments in endurance racing.

Nearly a decade later, fans still debate whether it was a stroke of genius or a step too far.
