That's a wrap on PGY2 (second year of residency)!! YOU GUYS can you believe I'm halfway done with residency?? Like I'm going to be an attending physician in just 2 years... 🤯  This has been such an incredible year of growth for me as a doctor. First year is brutal as you adjust to your new role as a prescriber, optimize workflow, and navigate the hospital system. Since finishing my month of solo nights in the ER in November, I've finally felt confident making incredibly nuanced, high-stakes decisions for people in crisis, and it has felt incredible to be able to help patients in their most vulnerable moments see some hope.  I've been really struggling to narrow down what area of psychiatry I want to work in post-residency and I'm currently debating between doing inpatient (psych ward), emergency, substance use disorders/addiction, ECT, or a combination of these things!  On the other hand I could also use my social media platforms to market a private practice as an outpatient doc, although in that case I would probably miss working with patients experiencing psychosis or mania. Taking any career suggestions!!
