The MLB AL MVP race is so close that even Sandy León of the Atlanta Braves somehow found his way into the conversation.

On one side, designated hitter and outfielder for the Houston Astros Yordan Alvarez is putting together one of the most dominant offensive seasons we’ve seen in years. His batting average is over .300, he has over 20 home runs, and his on base plus slugging percentage is over 1.000.

On the other, shortstop of the Kansas City Royals Bobby Witt Jr. continues to prove he’s one of the most complete baseball players in the MLB. He has nearly 80 hits, over 20 stolen bases, plays elite defense, and has a 4 wins above replacement rate.

And then there’s Sandy León…

Anyways, this AL MVP race is between power vs. speed. A pure hitter vs. five-tool superstar. The race is just getting started, and every game is going to matter. Whether you’re looking at OBP, OPS, WAR, or any baseball analytic to compare these 2 MLB superstars, it’s difficult for an average baseball fan or MLB fan to do so because they are so different, so great in so many ways. They are 2 completely different baseball players, but they are still the best MLB players in their own unique ways.
