Anthony Volpe heard all the noise from the baseball fans. At one point this season, the shortstop was optioned to Triple-A and looked like a baseball player whose future on the New York Yankees historical ball club was suddenly being questioned. The NY Yankees called him back up after injuries to Oswaldo Cabrera and Jose Caballero opened a spot, and many MLB fans viewed it as nothing more than a temporary solution.

Since then, Volpe has responded exactly how New York Yankees fans want a young MLB player to respond.

With his back against the wall, he’s taken advantage of the opportunity and started producing when the New York Yanks needed him most. Instead of letting the demotion define his season, he used it as motivation and came back looking like a different player. The confidence is back, the swings look more aggressive, and the results are starting to follow.

Baseball careers aren’t always a straight line. Sometimes the players who face adversity early end up becoming the ones who are strongest because of it. Volpe could’ve folded under the pressure of playing in New York, but instead he’s fighting his way back into the conversation.

Credit where credit is due. Anthony Volpe got knocked down, went back to work, and earned another shot. With outfielder Aaron Judge out as well as designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton, the New York baseball franchise is trying to hang in there.
