In NBA history, there have been 3 instances where a player averaged at least 26 points per game and 6 assists per game during the NBA Finals for the championship-winning team and still did not win Finals MVP, and they were all Stephen Curry.

The 2015 NBA Finals MVP emains one of the most debated decisions in basketball history. Steph Curry led the Golden State Warriors in points, assists, steals, three-pointers made, and offensive creation throughout the series against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. While Andre Iguodala ultimately took home the Bill Russell NBA Finals MVP Award, many Warriors fans and NBA fans still believe Curry was the most valuable player on the floor.

After Golden State head coach Steve Kerr inserted Iguodala into the starting lineup and unleashed the famous “Death Lineup” featuring Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala, Draymond Green, and Harrison Barnes, the series completely shifted. The Warriors won three straight games to close out the Cavaliers, and Curry knocked down clutch shots and forcing Cleveland’s defense to constantly adjust around him.

Iguodala was outstanding throughout the series, providing elite perimeter defense against LeBron while contributing offensively and helping transform the Warriors’ lineup flexibility. His impact was undeniable and he played a major role in GSW securing its first NBA Championship since 1975.

However, it’s difficult to ignore the fact that the Cleveland Cavs entire defensive game plan revolved. He was the engine of the Warriors’ offense, the player drawing double teams, and creating opportunities for teammates. Whether basketball fans look at the box score, advanced statistics, on-court impact, or watch the games back, there is a strong case for Curry.

Do you think Andre Iguodala deserved the 2015 Finals MVP, or should Stephen Curry be sitting here today with 3 Finals MVP trophies instead of 1?
