One story from last week's Canadian Screen Awards that we didn't want to miss.

APTN National News received the Canadian Screen Award for Best National Newscast, recognizing excellence in national television journalism.

The category also included CBC's The National, CTV National News, and Global National.

Former APTN National News host Creeson Agecoutay (Cowessess First Nation) noted that it was the first time APTN National News had won in the category.

The achievement marks a significant milestone for Indigenous journalism and for APTN, the world's only national Indigenous broadcaster.

Unlike many Indigenous media organizations around the world, APTN operates as a national television network available across Canada through mandatory distribution requirements established by the CRTC, serving First Nations, Inuit, Métis, and non-Indigenous audiences alike.

Founded in 1999, APTN became the world's first national Indigenous broadcaster and today reaches approximately 11 million Canadian households through news, entertainment, documentaries, children's programming, and Indigenous-language content.

Congratulations to the newsroom, producers, technical crews, hosts, and entire team behind this milestone.

What would the world look like if every country had a national Indigenous broadcaster?
