During our Unstoppable event, Talia Walton addressed a very real situation that many athletes face: dealing with a teammate who puts others down when the coach is not around. When you bring a group of people together from different backgrounds, not everyone is going to match perfectly. But how you handle that friction dictates the success of your team.

Talia breaks down a clear approach for handling these moments:

Stand up for yourself: It is important to find your voice and have those tough conversations, especially as a young woman.

Address it directly: Start by trying to have a direct conversation with that specific teammate.

Seek a mediator: If direct communication does not work, tap into a coach or a trusted adult to bridge the gap and help navigate the situation.

Sometimes, the teammates you clash with the most early on become your best friends later down the road. Learning how to navigate conflict, advocate for yourself, and protect your team's culture is a skill that will serve you well beyond the basketball court.
