British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he would ban social media use for under-16s and impose new restrictions on gaming and livestreaming platforms, in what would be one of the world’s most far-reaching online safety measures.

The UK would follow Australia in raising the minimum age to 16 for platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, and Snapchat.

The government is also considering additional measures, including overnight curfews and limits on infinite scrolling for under-18s.
