In 1972, Hall of Famer Rosie Casals stepped onto Wimbledon’s grass courts in a bold purple and white dress designed by Ted Tinling.

At a tournament known for its strict all white tradition, officials ordered her to change, saying the dress violated Wimbledon’s dress code. But Rosie’s look became about more than fashion. It became a statement of individuality, self expression, and the changing era of women’s tennis.

More than 50 years later, the dress remains one of the most talked about outfits in tennis history. ✨
