After over 6 years of living in London, there are quite a few things I’ve learned. Some are unwritten rules, some are personal preferences… and some simply make the city feel easier once you know them.
Save this for your next London trip:
	1	I wouldn’t stand on the left side of the escalator.
In London, this is practically a crime. Stand on the right, walk on the left.
	2	I wouldn’t queue for the London Eye.
It’s iconic from the outside, but don’t join the queue. Get in touch with us and skip it.
	3	I wouldn’t leave without rain protection.
London weather has a personality, and she likes to keep you guessing.
	4	I wouldn’t make Oxford Street my main shopping plan.
It’s crowded, chaotic, and most shops are places you can buy from online. I’d save my shopping energy for Marylebone, Chelsea, Notting Hill or Soho instead.
	5	I wouldn’t put Madame Tussauds at the top of the list.
No judgement if it’s your thing, but in a city with this much history, theatre, art, food and charm, it’s not where I’d send you first.
	6	I wouldn’t assume everything is pronounced the way it’s spelled.
Chiswick, Thames, Leicester Square… London will humble you quickly.
	7	I wouldn’t spend the whole trip in central.
Some of the best London days happen when you venture further out. Richmond, Chiswick, Hackney, Greenwich… the list goes on.
	8	I wouldn’t assume a taxi is always quicker.
Usually the Tube wins, sometimes walking wins, and occasionally London traffic wins.
	9	I wouldn’t try to see everything.
London is better when you give yourself time to explore, enjoy long lunches, pop into galleries, walk through parks and not rush the whole time.
	10	I wouldn’t forget the unspoken rules of public transport.
Let people off before you get on, keep your voice down, and don’t be alarmed if someone asks, “you alright?” They’re probably just saying hello.
London gets better when you know where to go, what to skip, and how to give yourself enough room to actually enjoy it.
