i moved to puerto rico 11 days ago, and i’m realizing how much we miss when we’re only hearing about the island from the states. 🇵🇷

before i got here, a girl told me she hadn’t had water in over 60 days.

i thought maybe it was an isolated area/situation.

then i got here, and i’ve barely had consistent water myself.

right now, over 100,000 people in puerto rico are being affected by water outages. in morovis, thousands of residents have gone more than 40 days without water.

and somehow, people are still being told this isn’t a crisis and being shamed for soeaking up or on it.

for a lot of us in the diaspora, and especially those who don’t fully understand the spanish news, local politics, or what people here are actually living through day to day, it’s easy to miss how severe things really are.

but puerto rico should not have to suffer quietly for us to finally pay attention.

this isn’t about inconvenience.
this is about basic human rights.
