Nebraska volleyball is still chasing its first national championship since 2017, but the program's future appears to be in good hands.

As Dani Busboom Kelly prepares for her second season as head coach, the Huskers continue to stockpile talent through recruiting, assembling two classes loaded with nationally recognized prospects.

The newest additions come from Nebraska's 2028 recruiting class, which already features two of the nation's top young players.

Milford standout Shayla Rautenberg announced her commitment earlier this week, giving Nebraska one of the most accomplished athletes in the state. The 6-foot-3 middle blocker helped lead Milford to state championships in both volleyball and basketball during the past school year.

On the volleyball court, Rautenberg averaged 5.6 kills per set while hitting .366 and recording 108 blocks. She also helped Team USA win gold at the 2025 NORCECA U19 Pan American Cup.

The daughter of former Husker All-American Lisa Reitsma, Rautenberg is ranked as high as the No. 1 overall recruit in the country by Volleyball Adrenaline.

Nebraska followed that commitment by landing setter Josalyn Samuels of Harrisburg, South Dakota.

Samuels comes from the same club program that developed current Nebraska setter and three-time Big Ten Setter of the Year Bergen Reilly. She is considered one of the top setters in the Class of 2028, ranking as high as No. 4 overall nationally and No. 2 at her position.

Samuels has already led Harrisburg to four consecutive state championships and has earned MaxPreps National Freshman and Sophomore of the Year honors.

While the 2028 class is just getting started, Nebraska's 2027 recruiting class is already regarded as one of the strongest in the nation.

That group is headlined by Arizona middle blocker Kendall Omoruyi, the No. 1 overall recruit in the country according to PrepDig.

The Huskers also secured commitments from Missouri outside hitter Shaye Witherspoon, one of the nation's most productive attackers, along with elite defensive specialists Mallory Johnson and Pulelehua Laikona.

Nebraska rounded out the class with in-state setter Malorie Boesiger, the younger sister of former Husker Maisie Boesiger.

The significance of these recruiting victories extends beyond national rankings.

Busboom Kelly and her staff are assembling the classes that will eventually replace one of the most successful groups in program history, a core led by Bergen Reilly, Harper Murray, Andi Jackson and Laney Choboy.

Replacing that group will not be easy.

But if Nebraska's recent recruiting success is any indication, the Huskers intend to remain among the nation's elite long after the current stars leave Lincoln.
