For Rolling Stone’s July/August cover story, @officialcharlixcx roamed around #hollywoodforever cemetery with us in Los Angeles, as the British #pop superstar prepares to release her new album ‘Music, Fashion, Film.’ Speaking with Senior Writer Angie Martoccio, #charlixcx reflects on her 2024 album #brat, which turned her into a cultural phenomenon, and the misapprehension that ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ is a "rock" album. She also discusses her burgeoning film career, and whether or not she believes in ghosts.

Charli xcx on whether she has hobbies: "I don’t f***ing have hobbies. This is my life. It’s every single fiber of my being."

Charli xcx on not wanting to repeat what she did with ‘Brat’: "I knew when I was making it that I was never going to make that record again. It’s not creatively rewarding for me to make the same thing twice."

Charli xcx on her lyric "The dancefloor is dead," from “Rock Music”: "That lyric is very much about my relationship with ‘Brat,’ and my personal experience with that album. My husband runs a dance-music label. There’s been such a wealth of incredible dance/electronic-adjacent records that have been coming out recently, whether it’s Slayyyter or Underscores or PinkPantheress. Dance music is in an incredible place."

Charli xcx on not needing to explain herself: "I don’t really feel the need to explain my intentions behind anything I do. But I’ll just say I find that things can be earnest and funny at the same time, and they don’t have to exclusively live separately. That’s how I feel about a lot of my work, and if people interpret that as trolling, then that’s fine."
